By julia, August 9, 2010 2:31 pm

Three Sisters just received info on something called “Mixing in Math.” Mixing in Math combines math with:

  • everyday activities, like cooking and cleaning up;
  • projects that involve crafts, movement, and science;
  • games for indoors and out!

You can download everything for free at http://mixinginmath.terc.edu.

Mixing in Math was funded in part by the National Science Foundation and developed at TERC, a non-profit math and science education center.

Barefoot Books Vendor in DM Area

By julia, July 2, 2010 10:12 am

For two years, Three Sisters was able to bring Barefoot Books to its Home Learning Resources Sale. This year, we were unable to locate an area dealer. Until now!

Barefoot Books has a new stallholder in Urbandale. Last I looked, this company offers very unique history and world culture products that are great for natural learning in the elementary grades.

Free modest girls’ clothing exchange

By julia, June 20, 2010 5:27 pm

Des Moines area happening from a local homeschool mom –

My daughter, Elizabeth, and I are excited to invite your daughters who are ages 6 through 16 to what the Lord has laid on our hearts – a Modest Clothing Exchange! I would imagine that many of you may be like us – We yearn to dress in more God-pleasing ways and yet we have trouble finding such nice, feminine apparel in the world nowadays. So… Here’s the basic info: Each young lady is asked to bring items they have outgrown or no longer care for and wish to “exchange.” We will be trading skirts, blouses, dresses, sweaters, shoes, purses, scarves, belts, headbands and more! We will have an enjoyable time creating a “store” and each girl will receive some pretend paper money to “buy” friends’ items! (No real money; it’s all free! smiley) We will also include a devotion/skit on inner beauty as described in God’s Word. What: Modest Clothing Exchange When: Friday, July 23, 2010 from 2:00-4:00pm Where: Urbandale Library, Meeting Rooms A & B (This location is great, because brothers, mothers & others can enjoy the library or play outside at the park next door!) Who: Young ladies ages 6 though 16. Bring a friend! *RSVP: If you’d like to come (or want more info), please contact Cheryl or Elizabeth Adams at 515-223-7174 or by email: cheryladams@mchsi.com. We will email you a more detailed list of “info and ideas” for the exchange. If you are interested, please RSVP soon, because even though this is a large room, there is a limit on the number of people the library allows and we don’t want to turn anyone down if you wait until the last minute. Hope your daughters can come! “…women adorn themselves in modest apparel…” – 1 Timothy 2:9
